Smoked Salmon Tacos: Fish Tacos without a Frying Pan

We use Captain Jim's Smoked Salmon to make fishtacos are the perfect blend of smoky, crunchy, creamy, and citrusy. They come together in just minutes but taste like something you’ve been planning all week. The combination of fresh cabbage slaw, buttery avocado, and flaky smoked salmon wrapped in warm tortillas makes for an easy yet impressive meal.

What makes these tacos special is their balance of textures and flavors—refreshing cabbage with zesty lime, rich salmon with a gentle smokiness, and the soft warmth of a toasted tortilla. They’re endlessly customizable, so you can keep them simple for a quick weeknight dinner or dress them up with extra toppings for a crowd-pleasing centerpiece at your next gathering.

We enjoyed ours with mango salsa. This recipe uses one can of Captain Jim's Smoked Salmon and is featured in our June 2025 Tinned Fish Club box. It's a perfect meal for two! For another meal with Captain Jim's Smoked Salmon, try serving it lemon dill sauce and mashed potatoes!

Ingredients

  • 4 soft tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded green cabbage
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 oz Captain Jim's Smoked Salmon, flaked
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • Optional toppings: mango salsa, pickled red onions, fresh cilantro, sour cream

How to Make Easy Fish Tacos with Captain Jim's Smoked Salmon

  1. Warm the tortillas in a skillet or oven. A great time, too, to bust out your tortilla warmer while preparing the rest.
  2. Shred the cabbage. In a bowl, toss the shredded cabbage with lime juice and a pinch of salt until slightly softened and brightened. The fresh lime is an essential ingredient, as it complements the smokiness of the salmon.
  3. Assemble the tacos: layer each tortilla with cabbage slaw, smoked salmon, and avocado slices.
  4. Add any optional toppings—corn salsa, pickled onions, cilantro, or sour cream—for extra flavor and texture. We used mango salsa, but diced mango works great a well! The options are truly limitless.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy smoky, fresh, and vibrant tacos.
