Fine Tinned Fish from the North

FANGST is Danish for "catch," and that accurately describes the surprise and joy you'll feel when popping a tin of their artisanal tinned fish. FANGST is an independent brand out of Copenhagen, Denmark.

FANGST specializes in classic interpretations and exceptional quality: Think flash-grilled Faroese salmon, Greenland halibut in oil, or brislings smoked over beechwood. All of their tins are steeped in local tradition. Their mission is to honor under-appreciated fish, such as monkfish and halibut, and, when appropriate, combine them with local flavors, such as chamomile and fennel.

The North Sea: Where Sardines are a Way of Life

FANGST sources their fish from the North and Baltic seas, which form the west and east coast of Denmark, respectively. This part of the world has relied on seafood for sustenance as long as its been inhabited, and the commercial trade of herring, smoked salmon, and salted cod have shaped the region's history for centuries.

When canning processes were developed in 19th century, it caught on fast. Today, FANGST works with local canneries across the region to find the best quality fish prepared in a way that honors the regions gastronomic heritage. We shipped FANGST's Brisling Sardine #1, which is packed with native heather and chamomile, in our December Tinned Fish Club box.

Sustainability at the Center

FANGST is also committed to sustainability. Smaller, sustainable fish like sardines and herring form the center of their offerings. Salmon and trout are raised on certified farms, and they work closely with canneries and fishermen to ensure that other species are harvested appropriately.

FANGST also operates HØST, a line of condiments and spreads, such as pickled fennel and mushroom mayonnaise. You can even visit the FANGST storefront in Copenhagen.
