What are Oysters?

Oysters are bivalve mollusks, known for their rough, irregular shells and soft, flavorful meat. They tend to be about the size of your palm or smaller, though some species can reach the size of a dinner plate.

Oysters have been consumed for centuries. In ancient Greece, they were seen as an aphrodisiac. In the early 1800s, oysters were among the very first foods to be canned in the United States. Eventually, Baltimore emerged as America’s Oyster capital.
